Strengthening technical assistance and expertise-sharing to enhance the capabilities of the Bangladesh Police was at the top of the agenda as EU Ambassador to Bangladesh Michael Miller met Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir at Police Headquarters on Tuesday.
The two sides discussed expanding cooperation in institutional capacity building, modern and technology-driven policing, investigation and forensic capabilities, cybercrime prevention, information sharing and legal cooperation, according to a press release from the Police Headquarters.
They also emphasised cooperation in combating terrorism and human trafficking, victim protection and ensuring gender-sensitive policing.
The meeting particularly focused on EU support through expert exchanges, training, technology transfer and institutional advisory assistance to help strengthen the Bangladesh Police as a modern, professional, technology-oriented and citizen-friendly law enforcement agency.
Both sides expressed optimism about further expanding cooperation between Bangladesh Police and the European Union, with an emphasis on sustainable capacity building.
Miller, who led a three-member EU delegation, also praised the professionalism and dedication of Bangladesh Police in maintaining law and order in the country following 5 August.
Senior police officials were present at the meeting.
