Former MP Sanowar shown arrested in attempted murder case

A Dhaka court on Wednesday ordered that former Tangail-5 lawmaker Md Sanowar Hossain be shown arrested again in an attempted murder case filed with Vatara Police Station in connection with the July uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ehsanul Islam passed the order, said state prosecutor Shamsuddoha Sumon.

Earlier, Sub-Inspector Md Mobasshir Rahman of Vatara Police Station submitted an application seeking to show Sanowar arrested in the case.

According to the application, several people, including 13-year-old Yusuf Hossain Sazzad, were shot and injured while taking part in a programme of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on 19 July 2024.

It was alleged that armed activists of the Awami League’s affiliated organisations opened fire on the protesters on the instructions and with the backing of the accused named in the case and others identified during the investigation.

The police plea said that Sanowar Hossain’s involvement in the incident had been found. It also said that there was a possibility of obtaining important information about other accused involved in the incident if he was taken into police custody for questioning.
