A Dhaka court on Wednesday rejected the bail petition of Bidisha Ershad, ex-wife wife of late president Hussain Muhammad Ershad, in a fraud case.
The court passed the order on Wednesday.
Police arrested Bidisha from Arabica Coffee Restaurant in Gulshan on Tuesday (25 August) night on the basis of an arrest warrant. She had received a two-year jail sentence in the fraud case.
On 20 May this year, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jamshed Alam sentenced Bidisha to two years in prison in the case.
AKM Mosharraf Hossain Sikder, a businessman from Dhaka’s Pallabi area, filed the case with Gulshan Police Station in February 2008.
According to the case documents, Mosharraf paid Bidisha Tk75 lakh on 10 July 2001 for a flat in Baridhara.
Bidisha had promised to hand over the flat on 10 July 2002. However, the complainant alleged that she failed to hand over the flat even after several years.
Bidisha later issued a cheque for Tk75 lakh, but the bank dishonoured it on 2 May 2005 due to insufficient funds in the account.
The complainant also alleged that Bidisha threatened him when he tried to recover his money.
