President calls on police to act with integrity, professionalism

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has urged the police to discharge their duties with honesty, dedication and professionalism to maintain law and order and combat crime.

He also directed the police to take effective measures to prevent cybercrime, mugging, extortion and the spread of drugs, while ensuring the safety of women and children.

The President gave the directives during a courtesy meeting with Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir at Bangabhaban on Thursday (3 September).

President Fakhrul said the police must take a firm stance against crime while ensuring fair and humane treatment of ordinary citizens. He also stressed the need for necessary measures to uphold the rule of law.

He instructed the police to take effective action to curb the spread of misinformation, disinformation and rumours, and to become more proactive in tackling cybercrime.

The President also called for regularly informing the public about such issues and intensifying awareness campaigns.

He said the current government is working to uphold people’s fundamental human and democratic rights. He also directed that effective measures to prevent extrajudicial killings, harassment of citizens and false cases should continue.

During the meeting, the IGP briefed the President on various measures taken to maintain the morale of the police force and to modernise and digitalise the organisation.

He sought the President’s cooperation in discharging the force’s responsibilities.

The President assured the police force of his overall support.

The President’s military secretary and press secretary were also present at the meeting.
