Elderly woman injured after being hit by state minister’s car dies

An elderly woman who was injured after being hit by the car carrying State Minister for Public Administration and Food Abdul Bari in Bogura’s Shibganj died while undergoing treatment on Friday.

Firoza Begum died at around 11:30am at TMSS Hospital in Bogura, where she had been receiving treatment since the accident earlier in the morning.

The accident occurred at around 8:45am in front of Kichak Bridge in Shibganj. The state minister’s vehicle reportedly lost control and veered into a low-lying area beside the road while attempting to avoid hitting Firoza.

The state minister was also injured in the accident.

Firoza was rescued and taken to a private hospital in Bogura, where she died while undergoing treatment.

Ibrahim Ali, officer-in-charge of Bogura Sadar Police Station, confirmed her death and said her body was in police custody at the hospital.

Members of Firoza’s family were at the hospital, and the authorities would discuss the matter with them before deciding on further legal action, he said.

Firoza was a resident of Gopinathpur village in Kichak Union of Shibganj.

Her nephew, Md Zakir, said she had been carrying some belongings and was on her way to a relative’s house when the accident occurred.

Shibganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ziaur Rahman said officials had visited TMSS Hospital and met the victim’s family.

“Government assistance will be provided to the family towards funeral expenses. We are also monitoring the overall situation,” he said.

The state minister’s gunman, Muktarul, said Abdul Bari, his wife, the driver and he himself were in the vehicle during the accident.
