China has extended its visa-free entry policy for several countries, including France, until December 31, 2026, and added Sweden to the scheme effective November 10, the Foreign Ministry announced Monday.
Spokesperson Mao Ning did not specify which other nations would be included in the extension. The policy—originally due to expire this year—currently benefits over 30 countries, including Spain and Germany, allowing citizens to stay in China for up to 30 days without a visa for business, tourism, family visits, or transit.
The initiative aims to revive China’s tourism sector and enhance foreign engagement following years of COVID-19 restrictions. It also reflects Beijing’s efforts to strengthen ties with the European Union, a key trading partner.
In related developments, China confirmed that its suspension of expanded rare earth export controls—first announced after talks between President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump in South Korea—will also apply to the EU. Both sides pledged continued dialogue to ensure the stability of industrial and supply chains, according to the Chinese Commerce Ministry.
