Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad has warned that it will launch a long march towards the border or surround the Indian High Commission in Dhaka if India does not stop illegal push-ins immediately.

The organisation’s central president, Nazmul Hasan, issued the warning during a press conference in front of Dhaka University’s Madhur Canteen on Tuesday afternoon. The press conference addressed the ongoing activities of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Awami League, as well as other contemporary national issues.

“If the illegal push-ins are not stopped, we will hold a long march towards the border, if necessary, the Indian High Commission in Dhaka will be surrounded,” Nazmul Hasan said, expressing deep concern over the deteriorating law and order situation.

He strongly condemned the recent flash mob processions and violence by the banned Awami League and BCL.

He alleged that an opportunistic clique within the administration continues to implement the deposed party’s agenda, allowing these sudden demonstrations to take place.

He also expressed frustration over the delay in justice for the victims of the July-August uprising.

“The families of more than 2,000 martyrs and thousands of injured in the July-August movement are still waiting for justice,” Hasan noted, demanding that the International Crimes Tribunal and other relevant bodies fast-track the trials.

Speaking at the event, the organisation’s senior vice-president, Newaz Khan Bappi, highlighted the historical misdeeds of the BCL. “Chhatra League has no such misdeeds that they have not committed,” Bappi said, citing campus irregularities, tender trading, seat grabbing, and the murders of students including Abrar Fahad, Bishwajit, and Abubakar Siddiqui.

He demanded the immediate removal of Awami League sympathisers from the administration.

At the conference,  they also demanded to take stricter measures by law enforcement agencies to halt all activities of the banned Chhatra League and Awami League; to organise a long march to the border and surround the Indian High Commission if a diplomatic solution to the illegal push-ins is not achieved; to increase budget allocations for the education and health sectors and ensure their effective implementation; to cut off immediately Awami League associates serving at various levels of the administration.
