A case has been filed against Major (retd) Akhtaruzzaman over allegations of obstructing official duties, assault and intimidation during a dispute over luggage and trolley shortages at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Airport security officer Md Shahriar Alam Sajib filed the case with Airport Police Station on Friday under eight sections of the Penal Code.
According to the case, a trolley shortage and delay in luggage delivery occurred around 10:40am on 1 October at baggage belt No. 8 after the arrival of Biman flight BG-338 from Madina.
As passengers became agitated, airport Executive Director Group Captain SM Ragib Samad went to the spot at the request of Dhaka-5 MP Mohammad Kamal Hossain to calm the situation.
It is alleged that Akhtaruzzaman approached the executive director aggressively, verbally abused him and issued threats.
Akhtaruzzaman’s protocol assistants also began filming inside the restricted key point installation (KPI) area. When security supervisor Warrant Officer Mohammad Kamal Uddin asked them to stop, Akhtaruzzaman allegedly abused and assaulted him.
He also allegedly threw bottles of Zamzam water from a trolley and behaved aggressively towards a Biman Bangladesh Airlines representative, according to the complaint.
Police registered the case under sections 186, 189, 294, 323, 352, 353, 504 and 506 of the Penal Code.
Police said they would examine CCTV footage, record witness statements and collect other evidence before taking further legal action.
