PM attends UN Peacekeepers Day ceremony at Senakunja

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman attended a ceremony marking International United Nations Peacekeepers Day 2026 at Senakunja in Dhaka Cantonment on Wednesday morning.

The event began at around 10am and was organised to honour the contributions and sacrifices of Bangladeshi peacekeepers serving in United Nations missions around the world.

In a statement issued on the occasion, the Prime Minister appreciated the professionalism, competence and humanitarian values demonstrated by Bangladeshi peacekeepers in maintaining global peace and security.

He noted that Bangladesh remains one of the largest contributors of personnel to UN peacekeeping operations, reflecting the country’s longstanding commitment to international peace and stability.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the growing role of Bangladeshi female peacekeepers, whose professionalism and achievements have earned widespread international recognition.

He described their contribution as a shining example of women’s empowerment and Bangladesh’s progress on the global stage.

Bangladeshi peacekeepers have been serving in conflict-affected regions across the world for decades, playing vital roles in protecting civilians, supporting humanitarian efforts and promoting peace in fragile environments.

International United Nations Peacekeepers Day is observed annually to recognise the dedication and sacrifice of peacekeepers serving under the UN flag worldwide.
