The government has decided to rename two counterterrorism units of police and also increase their strength.
As per a press release issued on Tuesday, the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) will be renamed as “Special Security Unit (SSU)” and the Counter-terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC), a specialised unit under DMP, will be renamed as “Special Security Unit-DMP”.
Assistant Inspector General of Police AHM Shahadat Hossain said the renaming is part of a structural overhaul process aimed at strengthening the two units amid the rapidly changing nature of security threats both at home and abroad.
