Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu has said the Teesta Master Plan is closely linked to the prosperity and future of the northern region.

He made the remarks as the chief guest at a workshop titled “Improvement of Local-Level Early Flood Warning and Dissemination System” under the PRABHATI project on Tuesday morning.

The workshop, held at the BIAM auditorium in the capital, was organised to brief participants on the progress of the project, which aims to enhance the resilience of vulnerable communities through infrastructure development and improved access to information.

The minister said implementation of the master plan would help eliminate floods and droughts, turning the region into a prosperous area.

“That is why the current patriotic democratic government is committed to implementing the project,” he said.

The minister further said, “In this land of six seasons, we have grown up alongside disasters. Various types of disasters strike the country almost constantly. The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief stands beside people who lose everything and are left destitute in the face of disasters, serving as a beacon of hope.”

The event sources said the project is being implemented in 19 upazilas across the flood-prone districts of Gaibandha, Kurigram and Jamalpur in the northwestern part of the country.

It is helping local communities cope with flood risks by improving seasonal flood forecasting systems at the local level and disseminating advance warnings.

Director General of the Department of Disaster Management Rezwanur Rahman presided over the event.

Disaster Management and Relief State Minister M Iqbal Hossain attended as a special guest, while Secretary of the ministry ABM Shafiqul Haider and LGED Chief Engineer Belal Hossain, among others, spoke at the event.
