Govt offers Tk10.50-incentive for every unit of rooftop solar power supply

The government has announced a special incentive package for installing rooftop solar power systems with batteries, offering Tk10.50 per unit for surplus electricity supplied to the national grid.

Under the scheme, the maximum generation cost of rooftop solar electricity, including battery costs, has been set at Tk8 per unit. A 20% profit and an 11.25% premium will be added to the cost, bringing the incentive price to Tk10.50 per unit.

Consumers who can install such systems at a cost lower than the prescribed amount will be entitled to retain the savings as their dividend, according to a government notification issued on Tuesday.

Under the Net Metering Guideline 2025, consumers who install rooftop solar systems by 28 February 2027, and supply surplus electricity to the national grid after meeting their own demand will receive Tk10.50 per unit for three years, until 28 February 2030.

The incentive will not apply to systems installed after 28 February 2027.

Electricity distribution companies will maintain records of consumers, the amount of electricity supplied to the grid and related payment information. The incentive payments will be transferred to consumers’ bank or mobile financial service accounts and will not be paid in cash.

Solar panels, batteries, inverters, meters and other equipment used in the systems must meet the technical standards set by the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) and the Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA).

Policy support will be provided through the one-stop service centre established by the Power Division, as well as offices of electricity distribution companies at district and upazila levels.
