BCB opens ‘Tigers Den’ to honour current and former Bangladesh cricketers

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Tamim Iqbal on Tuesday unveiled a new players’ lounge, named ‘Tigers Den’, at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, saying the initiative is aimed at giving current and former Bangladesh cricketers a place they can truly call their own.

After a brief session with the media personnel at the venue, Tamim told reporters that the lounge has been created for every men’s and women’s cricketer who has represented Bangladesh at least once at the international level.

“We had a small media session today, but I also wanted to show everyone this place. We have created this lounge called ‘Tigers Den’ for our cricketers. Every men’s and women’s player who has represented Bangladesh, even for a single match, will have a place here to sit, enjoy matches on game days or simply spend time during office hours,” Tamim said.

“I have said this before – our current and former cricketers must all own Bangladesh cricket. And to make that happen, the BCB has to take the necessary steps. I believe this was long overdue. We have had a Captain’s Box for many years, but there wasn’t really anything for the rest of our national cricketers. This is a small effort from our side,” he added.

Although the facility is almost complete, Tamim said the board will officially inaugurate it only after the remaining work is finished.

“We haven’t officially opened it yet because a few things are still left to be done. We want to preserve some of Bangladesh cricket’s greatest memories here—from the 1997 ICC Trophy triumph and the women’s Asia Cup title to our first Test victory and other historic moments. Once those displays are ready, we will formally open it with the cricketers,” he said.

According to Tamim, the lounge is about 95 percent complete, with only the installation of photographs and memorabilia remaining before its official opening.
