Dengue claims seven more lives in 24 hours

Seven more deaths were reported from dengue in the past 24 hours till Tuesday morning, raising the number of fatalities from the Aedes mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 164 this year.

In the 24-hour span, 1,593 more patients were hospitalised with viral fever, raising the total caseload to 55,163 in 2026.

Among the fatalities, which included three men and four women, two were reported in Khulna division, and one each in Barishal, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of the latest cases, 159 patients were admitted to hospitals in Barishal division, 165 in Chattogram division, 383 in Dhaka division, 171 under Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), 132 under Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), 290 in Khulna division, 82 in Mymensingh division, 137 in Rajshahi division, 65 in Rangpur division, and nine in Sylhet division.

DGHS data shows that men account for 62.5% of infections so far this year, while women represent 37.5%.

According to official data, Bangladesh recorded 102,861 dengue cases and 413 deaths from the mosquito-borne disease in 2025.

In 2024, the country reported 101,214 dengue infections and 575 deaths.

The previous year (2023) saw the country’s worst outbreak on record, with 1,705 deaths and 321,179 hospitalisations.
