MetLife invests in EBL bond

MetLife Bangladesh has invested Tk50 crore in the fourth subordinated bond issued by Eastern Bank PLC (EBL), reinforcing the insurer’s ongoing efforts to strengthen and diversify its investment portfolio in the country.

Apart from investing in government bonds, MetLife Bangladesh continues to diversify into corporate bonds to support sustainable financing for corporates, while delivering enhanced, long term returns for its policyholders, said a press release.

With this latest investment, MetLife Bangladesh’s total investment portfolio has reached approximately Tk19,000 crore.

Commenting on the investment, Ala Ahmad, CEO of MetLife Bangladesh, said, “As one of the largest investors in the country, our partnership with EBL represents a shared commitment to strengthening the financial ecosystem, while responsibly growing our investment portfolio to deliver secure and sustainable returns for our policyholders.”

Hassan O Rashid, managing director of EBL, said, “EBL remains focused on leveraging its strong financial foundation and expertise to develop diversified investment opportunities for corporates. Instruments such as subordinated bonds enable us to support responsible business growth, deepen long-term financing in the market, and contribute to Bangladesh’s economic development.”

EBL is one of the country’s leading private commercial banks, with a strong and diversified corporate and retail customer base.

MetLife Bangladesh is the country’s leading life insurer, serving around 1 million individual customers and over 900 corporate clients.
