Two youths killed after being run over by train in Gopalganj

Two young men were killed after being run over by a train in Kashiani upazila of Gopalganj on Tuesday night.

The accident occurred in the Maheshpur railway station area of the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Hasib Gazi, 20, son of Shah Alam Gazi of Baiyakhola village in Maheshpur Union, and Mehedi Sheikh, 25, son of Babul Sheikh of Noapara village.

Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kashiani Police Station, said the two youths had reportedly fallen asleep on the railway tracks because of the hot weather.

At one point, the Khulna-bound Jahanabad Express train ran over them, killing both on the spot, the OC said.

On information, a team of Bhanga Railway Police reached the scene and recovered the bodies.

Legal procedures were expected to be completed before the bodies were handed over to the families, he added.
