Bangladesh and Thailand have discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation in a range of areas, including trade, investment, connectivity, agriculture, defence and tourism.

The discussions took place during an introductory meeting between Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Thailand and Urasa Mongkolnavin, Director-General of the Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs at Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on 13 August.

According to a Facebook post by the Embassy of Bangladesh in Bangkok, the two sides discussed the exchange of high-level visits and ways to deepen cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

Trade and investment, connectivity, agriculture, defence, culture and sports, tourism and people-to-people ties were among the key areas discussed.

The officials also discussed preparations for the 4th Bangladesh-Thailand Bilateral Consultations, a platform for reviewing and advancing cooperation between the two countries.

They also exchanged views on regional and international issues of common interest.

The meeting comes as Bangladesh and Thailand seek to broaden bilateral engagement beyond traditional areas and strengthen economic and people-to-people links.
