Delhi High Court, IGI airport, 3 govt offices get bomb threats ahead of Independence Day

A day before Independence Day, the Delhi High Court, Terminal 3 of Delhi airport and several government offices in the Indian capital received bomb threats via email on Friday.

Police declared all the threats hoaxes after carrying out searches and security checks at the locations.

A police source said the Delhi Cantonment SDM Office received an email at 11:18am, followed by Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) at 11:32am, Jamnagar House at 11:40am, Saket SDM Office at 11:42am and Jhandewalan at 11:57am. The threats were reported to the Fire Control Room.

The threatening email reportedly referred to 15 August and carried the warning, “Lal Qila ta nishana hove ga” (the Red Fort will be targeted). It also claimed that those carrying out the bombing would be dressed in khaki, apparently suggesting the involvement of uniformed personnel in the alleged operation.

Teams from the Delhi Police, bomb squad and fire brigade were sent to all five locations, and the threats were declared hoaxes after checks.

“The bomb threat appears to be fake… Everything is under control. Bomb squad and sniffer dogs are scanning the entire premises.

There is no threat as of now,” said joint secretary of the Delhi High Court, Advocate Kunal.

Security has been heightened across the national capital ahead of Independence Day, with police personnel deployed at strategic points and additional checks being conducted at entry and exit routes.

Security teams are also keeping a close watch on public places and areas expected to see increased movement ahead of 15 August.
