The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has reported the formation of a fresh low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, warning that squally weather could affect the country’s coastal regions.
The BMD has advised the maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra to hoist Local Cautionary Signal No. 3.
In a special weather warning issued on Saturday, Assistant Meteorologist Afroza Sultana said the low-pressure area has formed over the north-west Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Gangetic West Bengal–north Odisha coast.
Under its influence, squally winds are likely to sweep over the maritime ports, the north Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.
The weather office also instructed all fishing boats and trawlers operating in the north Bay of Bengal to remain close to the coast and navigate with caution until further notice.
