At least 195 children were killed in different forms of violence across Bangladesh during the first six months of 2026, according to a report released by human rights organisation Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK).

The data, compiled from media reports and ASK’s own monitoring, revealed that adolescents aged between 13 and 18 accounted for the highest number of victims, with 76 deaths.

Among the remaining victims, 61 children were aged up to six years, while 49 were between seven and 12 years old. The ages of nine victims were not mentioned in the reports.

According to the report, physical torture was the leading cause of child deaths, claiming the lives of 51 children during the period. Another 40 children died after being subjected to torture within their families.

The report also documented the recovery of the bodies of 30 previously missing children and recorded 21 children who were killed after being raped. Fifteen other children were found dead in incidents classified as recovered bodies.

ASK said 17 children died by suicide during the six-month period.

The organisation further reported that three children were murdered following attempted rape, while another three were killed in shootings.

In addition, two cases each were recorded involving boys killed after being raped by men, domestic child workers dying from physical torture, domestic workers dying under mysterious circumstances, suicides following rape, suicides after torture by teachers and children killed by stalkers.

Single incidents were also reported involving suicide linked to sexual harassment, death following abduction, and mysterious child deaths.

Despite the deaths of 195 children, only 59 cases were filed in connection with the incidents, according to ASK.
