Sylhet, Monday:
Bangladesh Test captain Najmul Hossain Shanto said the national team is enjoying working under senior assistant coach Mohammad Salahuddin, even as the coach serves his notice period following his resignation from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
Salahuddin, who stepped down citing family reasons, has yet to have his resignation formally accepted by the board. BCB officials are reportedly planning further discussions with him over the matter. The issue came up during Shanto’s pre-match press conference at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Monday.
“Well, that is totally his personal decision — what he initially thought and what he did,” Shanto told reporters.
“Secondly, I don’t really have any idea how much communication he had with the Cricket Board on this matter. So, the Cricket Board and Salahuddin sir himself can say what kind of conversations they had or what the situation is. Yes, I personally had a conversation with him. I hope that the Cricket Board and he will have a good conversation in the future,” he added.
Salahuddin has recently faced allegations of favouritism toward certain players — a claim Shanto firmly rejected.
“I have really enjoyed working with him,” Shanto said. “The most important thing is that Sir tries to treat every cricketer equally and gives every player priority according to their ability and areas of improvement.”
He continued, “Often there are gaps, or outsiders might feel there is bias, which we sometimes hear. But I will say that not everything is true. As cricketers, we were all happy. I have enjoyed the recent series I played in, and I believe he did a very good job in every opportunity he got.”
