Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today said the government is closely monitoring the situation following a 5.7-magnitude earthquake and has directed all relevant authorities to move quickly to the field to assess possible damage.
“The government is aware of the public concern and anxiety following the earthquake tremors felt in different parts of the country. The situation is being closely monitored, and all relevant offices have been instructed to immediately move to the field level and assess any possible damage,” he said in a message released by his press wing this afternoon.
He added that the government is taking all necessary measures, giving utmost priority to public safety. Fire service teams are responding promptly to damage reports from across the country, including the capital.
Prof. Yunus urged citizens to ignore rumours and misinformation, remain cautious, and follow official instructions. He said further directives would be issued if needed through government channels and hotlines.
“We are committed to ensuring the safety of all citizens,” the Chief Adviser said.
An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale was felt at around 10:40 am in Dhaka and several other parts of the country.
