The prosecution of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Court expects the charge sheet in the rape and murder case of eight-year-old child Ramisa Akter to be filed by Sunday.
State Prosecutor of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Court Md Harun Or Rashid said this on Friday morning.
He said the DNA test report process takes 48 hours. “If this is completed by Saturday, we expect the charge sheet to be filed by Sunday.”
“The Law Minister has given clear instructions regarding this. As Sunday is the last working day before the holiday, investigators are trying to conclude the probe within this timeframe,” he said.
Earlier in the morning, the Dhaka Bar Association said no lawyer of the association would defend the accused in this case.
On 19 May, tragedy struck a residential building in the capital’s Pallabi area when Sohel Rana, a neighbour living in an adjacent apartment, allegedly lured, assaulted, and murdered Ramisa Akter, a second-grade student.
Sohel, an alleged drug addict, reportedly attempted to dismember the child’s body to conceal the crime by decapitating the victim and severing both arms from the shoulders.
Police apprehended Sohel’s wife, Swapna, at the scene and later traced and arrested Sohel Rana from the Fatullah Police Station area in Narayanganj district.
The victim’s father, Hannan Mollah, filed a formal case against Sohel and Swapna with Pallabi Police Station. Sohel also gave a confessional statement before a Dhaka court on 20 May.
