India and Bangladesh are looking to schedule a visit by Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to India in the third week of November, sources said, after an earlier attempt to arrange the visit was aborted.

Efforts to reschedule the visit are expected to gather pace following the arrival of Bangladesh’s new High Commissioner to India, Asad Alam Siam, in the last week of October or early November.

For Dhaka, however, the key concern that could determine whether the visit takes place is the unresolved issue of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s extradition.

Tarique Rahman’s birthday greetings to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Modi’s prompt response, appear to have boosted the likelihood of an early finalisation of dates for the visit.

However, neither India nor Bangladesh has confirmed or denied reports that Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval travelled to Dhaka recently.

The reported visit by Doval was said to have taken place on 17 September.
