Students of Dinajpur Zilla School are set to make space observation happen with a two-day science and space-themed festival scheduled for 14 and 15 August on the school campus.

Organised by the SSC 2027 batch of Dinajpur Zilla School, the event titled “DZS Presents: Beyond the Earth–Horizon X” is expected to bring together around 600 students from Dinajpur and neighbouring areas, creating a vibrant platform for young science enthusiasts to compete, collaborate and think beyond conventional classroom learning.

Under the theme “Beyond the Earth, Beyond the Horizon”, Horizon X will feature science and space-related competitions, quizzes, case-solving challenges, creative activities, photography and other engaging segments.

The organisers said the activities have been designed not merely to test academic knowledge, but to encourage curiosity, critical thinking, creativity and real-world problem-solving skills.

For the young organisers, the event is about creating a culture of inquiry among students in a region where opportunities for large-scale science-based activities are comparatively limited.

Ishaan Karmaker, coordinator of Horizon X, said, “Horizon X is not just a competition. Our main goal is to create a platform where students can turn their curiosity into ideas and their ideas into possibilities. We want them to see science not simply as a subject for examinations, but as a way of understanding the world and solving real-life problems.”

He said the initiative also aims to demonstrate that students outside major cities can take the lead in science, innovation and creative thinking.

“There is enormous curiosity among students in Dinajpur about science and space. Through Horizon X, we want to encourage that curiosity and inspire students to think beyond what they see around them–to ask questions, explore the unknown and imagine what could be possible,” Ishaan added.

Beyond the competitions, participants will have opportunities to interact with special guests and engage in activities centred on science, space and innovation. Organisers hope such interactions will expose students to new ideas and encourage them to consider science, technology, research and innovation as future areas of pursuit.

The initiative comes at a time when science education is increasingly moving beyond textbooks and examination halls. Events such as Horizon X can provide students with an opportunity to experiment with ideas, work with peers and develop skills that conventional classroom education may not always nurture.

The organisers have already completed extensive preparations to make Horizon X an educational, creative and enjoyable experience for participants.
