Police recovered the body of a seven-year-old girl from inside a sack in Mollahat upazila of Bagerhat on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Muslima Khatun, 7, daughter of Islam Sheikh, a van driver from Kachuria village in Mollahat upazila. She was a student at a local madrasa.

Md Shahdat Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mollahat Police Station, said locals informed police after spotting a child’s body inside a sack near a betel leaf field in Kachuria village.

Police went to the spot and recovered Muslima’s body from the sack around 9pm, he said.

The OC said the girl appeared to have been killed by having her throat slit.

Police are working to determine the motive behind the murder and arrest those involved, he said.

Efforts are underway to take further legal action in connection with the incident, the OC added.
