Arambagh-Wanderers return as more teams added to Premier League

The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) increased the number of teams in the 2025-26 domestic football Premier League on Sunday.

At an emergency executive committee meeting, the federation approved the participation of Bangladesh Championship League’s third-placed side Dhaka Wanderers and last season’s relegated Arambagh Krira Sangha in the Premier League.

Wanderers had applied to play in the Premier League two months ago, but the BFF did not consider the request at the time.

After submitting another application, the club was included in the league midway through the ongoing transfer window.

Fakirerpool Young Men’s and Arambagh Krira Sangha were relegated from the Premier League last season.

However, the BFF has reconsidered the decision due to FIFA sanctions.

Alongside Arambagh, Fakirerpool will also be allowed to play in the Premier League if they manage to overcome their sanction.

BFF president Tabith Awal said the league must have at least 10 teams in accordance with FIFA’s directives.

Abahani, Bashundhara Kings and Fakirerpool are currently under sanctions.

If the sanctions are lifted, the league will have 13 teams; otherwise, it will be held with 10 teams.

Meanwhile, Wanderers said they would try to build a strong squad within a short period.

Last season, Chattogram City and City Club earned promotion to the Premier League from the Championship League.
