4 killed after oil tanker rams into auto-rickshaw in Sylhet

At least four people were killed after an oil-laden tanker hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Osmaninagar on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway on Saturday.

Two others were injured in the accident. They are currently receiving treatment at Sylhet Osmani Medical College and Hospital (SOMCH) in Sylhet.

The accident took place around 2:30pm on Saturday. All of the deceased were passengers of the CNG-run auto-rickshaw, Officer-in-Charge of Sherpur Highway Police Station Anisur Rahman confirmed.

The deceased are: Niamat Ali, son of Gofur Mia from Sriramisi area under Sunamganj’s Jagannathpur upazila, Niamat’s wife and his daughter, and the auto-rickshaw driver Lalan Mia, son of Farid Mia from the Moulvibazar’s Sherpur area.

According to police, a head-on collision took place between a CNG-run auto-rickshaw en route from Sherpur to Sylhet and an oil-laden tanker coming from the opposite direction.

The auto-rickshaw was smashed due to the collision. Locals immediately rescued the seven injured and took them to SOMCH for treatment, where the on-duty doctors declared four of them dead.
