Naim, Mim hit centuries, Mahedi grabs six

Mohammad Naim and Mim Mosaddeak struck centuries for Dhaka and Rangpur respectively, while Khulna off-spinner Mahedi Hasan claimed six wickets to headline the opening day of the National Cricket League’s (NCL) second round on Saturday.

Mahedi ripped through Rajshahi’s batting line-up at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, taking 6-38 in 14 overs to bowl them out for 119. Sofor Ali chipped in with three wickets for 41 runs.

Khulna finished the day on 108-1 in reply, with Azizul Hakim Tamim unbeaten on 55 and Kalam Siddiki on 28.

At the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Naim’s fifth first-class century helped Dhaka reach 343-2 at stumps. He struck 131 off 215 balls, hitting 11 fours and three sixes, while Jishan Alam made an impressive 81.

Marshall Ayub was unbeaten on 80 at the close, putting Dhaka in a commanding position after the first day.

At the Sylhet Academy Ground, Mim Mosaddeak celebrated his maiden first-class century in his 23rd match, smashing 157 off 212 deliveries with 23 fours for Rangpur.

Iqbal Hosen added 78 and Abdullah Al Mamun contributed 61 as Rangpur’s batters put their side in a strong position.

In Cox’s Bazar, left-arm spinner Hasan Murad took 4-85 to help Chattogram dismiss Barishal for 282. Moin Khan narrowly missed out on a century, falling for 97 after being bowled by Murad, while Zawad Abrar scored 63.

Chattogram responded strongly, reaching 72 without loss in the final hour of the day. They remain 210 runs behind Barishal’s first-innings total, with their opening pair still at the crease.
