A Dhaka court on Monday ordered former shipping minister Shahjahan Khan and his son Asibur Rahman to be shown arrested in a case filed over allegations of acquiring assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Shahjahan Kabir passed the order after a hearing, said Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer Mohammad Khadimul Haque.
The court also set 25 November for submission of the investigation report in the case, he said.
Earlier, on 7 September, ACC Assistant Director Mahathir Muhammad Sami filed a petition seeking to show Shahjahan Khan and Asibur Rahman arrested in the case.
According to the case documents, investigators found Tk9.89 crore in assets allegedly inconsistent with Asibur Rahman’s known sources of income.
The complaint also alleged that Shahjahan Khan abused his position and helped his son acquire the assets using money obtained through illegal means.
ACC Deputy Director Kamalesh Mondal filed the case on 2 February 2025.
Shahjahan Khan was arrested from the capital’s Dhanmondi area on 6 September 2024, and has remained in jail since then.
