Cop dead, wife rescued with injuries from hotel room in Ctg

The hanging body of a cop was recovered and his wife was rescued in injured condition from a room of a residential hotel at Mirsharai upazila in the district on Monday.

The deceased cop was identified as Aminul Islam, 32, son of the late Abul Hossain of Paschim Mayani village under the upazila, while his wife is Tahmina Akhter, 27. The couple had their 10-month-old baby girl with them at the hotel.

Aminul was working as an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) in Rangamati district Police Lines.

According to police sources, Tahmina was at her father’s house in Zorarganj under the upazila with her child. Aminul, who came on leave from work, went there a few days ago.

They left the house on Sunday morning, saying that they would register the birth of the child. Later, at around 2pm, they checked into the residential hotel “Relax Zone” at Borotakia Bazar under the upazila.

After failing to get response from inside on Monday morning, the hotel authorities informed police of the matter, said the sources.

At one stage, the wife opened the door. Later, police entered the room and found Aminul’s body hanging from the ceiling fan.

His wife Tahmina was also found lying with bleeding injuries to different parts of her body. The child was also found there unharmed.

Police rescued Tahmina and sent her to the Mirsharai Upazila Health Complex.

The Health Complex Emergency department on-duty physician Meher Nigar said that the face, lips and tongue of Tahmina were swollen.

“Blood was flowing from her nose. There were also marks around her neck suggesting that something had been tightly wrapped around it,” said the doctor, adding that the patient was shifted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for better treatment.

Family sources said Aminul got married two years ago and had marital disputes with his wife on various issues. Arbitrations were also held locally, but went in vain.

Inspector (Investigation) Awlad Hossain of Mirsharai police station said the body was sent to the CMCH morgue for autopsy.

Aminul might have committed suicide over family dispute. However, the exact cause behind the incident can be ascertained after investigation, he said.
