BNP collects two nomination papers for presidential election

The ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has collected two nomination papers from the Election Commission’s (EC) returning officer’s office for the upcoming presidential election.

Chief Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad Nurul Islam Moni and BNP Senior Joint Secretary General and Prime Minister’s Adviser Ruhul Kabir Rizvi collected the nomination papers from the office of the Chief Election Officer at the Election Commission Building in Agargaon, Dhaka, on Sunday.

The EC announced the presidential election schedule last Thursday.

According to the schedule, candidates must submit their nomination papers on 13 August, while voting will be held on 20 August, EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said.

The EC secretary said the Chief Election Commissioner finalised the schedule in consultation with the Speaker in accordance with Section 5(3) of the Presidential Election Act, 1991.

He said the entire election process would be conducted at the Election Commission Building and in the Jatiya Sangsad Chamber according to the scheduled timings.

Presidential election schedule

According to the schedule, nomination papers can be submitted from 10am to 4pm on 13 August (Thursday) at the office of the Returning Officer.

The scrutiny of nomination papers will begin at 10am on 16 August (Sunday) at the EC Building.

Candidates can withdraw their nominations until 4pm on 18 August (Tuesday).

Voting will be held from 2pm to 5pm on 20 August (Thursday) in the Jatiya Sangsad Chamber.

Akhtar Ahmed said the voter list for the presidential election had already been prepared.

He added that the Commission would carry out the remaining administrative preparations in phases following the announcement of the election schedule.
