Uranium fuel leaves Dhaka airport for Rooppur

A convoy carrying uranium fuel for the first unit of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for Rooppur on Saturday morning.

The fuel is being transported to Rooppur in three lorries under tight security provided by the Bangladesh Army, according to media reports.

The convoy set out for Rooppur at around 7:15am today. Besides the army, members of the Special Response Battalion (SRB), police and various intelligence agencies are also responsible for security.

A special cargo flight carrying uranium fuel for the first unit of the plant arrived in Dhaka late last night, marking the delivery of nuclear fuel for Bangladesh’s first nuclear power plant.

The flight landed at Dhaka airport at around 11:43pm, the airport’s executive director, Group Captain SM Ragib Samad, told The Business Standard.

He said information related to the movement of the consignment is classified.
