Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General and former MP Mia Golam Parwar has expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of six newborn babies at Ad-din Medical College Hospital in the capital’s Moghbazar area.
In a statement issued on Wednesday (27 May), Parwar described the deaths of the infants, aged between one and two days, as “heart-rending” and a “tragic loss”.
“The deaths of six innocent newborns at Ad-din Hospital in the early hours of 27 May are deeply painful and distressing. No words of comfort can compensate for the irreparable loss suffered by their parents and families,” he said.
Parwar said he was shocked and saddened by the incident, which has also caused widespread grief across the country.
Referring to preliminary reports, he noted that hospital authorities suspect a possible air-conditioning gas leak or another technical fault may have led to the tragedy.
“Such deaths in a place meant to provide safety and medical care are unacceptable,” he said, urging the authorities to form a swift and impartial investigation committee to determine the exact cause of the incident.
He further called for legal action against those responsible if any negligence, misconduct or failure of duty by the hospital authorities is found through the investigation.
“If the probe finds evidence of negligence or irresponsibility, those responsible must be brought to justice and given exemplary punishment,” he added.
Parwar also extended his condolences to the bereaved families and offered prayers for the deceased infants.
“I express my heartfelt sympathy to the grieving parents and family members. I pray to Almighty Allah to grant these innocent children the highest place in Jannatul Ferdous and give their parents patience and strength during this difficult time,” he said.
