The district administration has withdrawn Section 144 in Habiganj following an earlier ban imposed amid tensions over rival political programmes by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the National Citizen Party (NCP).
Habiganj Deputy Commissioner on Thursday (30 July) revoked the order that had been enforced across the municipal area.
The restriction had been imposed after BNP and NCP leaders and activists announced counter programmes, raising concerns over a possible deterioration in the law and order situation.
Under the order, all gatherings of five or more people, public meetings, processions, the use of loudspeakers, slogan chanting, picketing, excessive noise and any activities deemed likely to disrupt public order were prohibited within the Habiganj municipal area until further notice.
The restrictions took immediate effect when they were issued. With Thursday’s decision, the prohibitory order has now been lifted.
