Home minister directs police to play more active role to end terrorism

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Saturday said police must play more active role to eliminate terrorists and drug dealers.

The minister made the remark while talking to journalists after visiting an injured doctor from Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in the capital, said a press release.

Dr Md Asadur Rahman, head of the ENT department at DMCH, was injured after miscreants assaulted him over extortion demands on 17 August.

During the visit, Salahuddin said, “Four among the seven accused of attacking Prof Asadur have been arrested. But police has more work to do. We want to eliminate the terrorists.”

Salahuddin added, “The government has ordered respective authorities to take quick steps against those associated with extortion and drug peddling in Dhaka and other metropolitan areas.”

During this time, the home minister warned that actions will be taken against the law enforcers if they fail to do their duties, adding that activities of the police will be increased to control the law and order situation.

“We are making a list of the extortionists. Actions will be taken against any police official who will be found associated with extortion,” the home minister further said.
