Former Chattogram-3 (Sandwip) MP Mahfuzur Rahman Mita has been arrested by the Gulshan division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch (DB).

He was arrested from a house on Road 43 in Gulshan-2 at around 1:30am on Tuesday, according to police.

DB Gulshan Deputy Commissioner A.F.M Anwar Hossain Khan confirmed the arrest on Tuesday.

He said a DB team raided House No. 29 on Road 43 in Gulshan-2 based on confidential information and arrested Mita, a former MP from the Chattogram-3 constituency of the Awami League, whose activities are currently banned.

Following his arrest, Mita was taken to the DB office on Minto Road, the police official said.

Legal proceedings against him are under way, he added.

Anwar Hossain Khan also said Mita is named as an accused in several cases filed with Sandwip Police Station in Chattogram.
