Bangladesh-China technical education cooperation enters new era: Mahdi Amin

Bangladesh and China have stressed the importance of strengthening their joint partnership in education, technical training and skills development, with Prime Minister’s Education Adviser Mahdi Amin saying deeper cooperation could take diplomatic relations between the two countries to a new height.

Speaking at the China-Bangladesh Education Exchange Conference at Jiangxi Science and Technology Normal University on Friday, Mahdi Amin said the partnership must be translated into tangible opportunities for young people rather than remaining limited to formal agreements.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed to establish a training centre under the China-Bangladesh Vocational Education, Training and Research Centre, marking what Amin described as a new chapter in technical education cooperation.

Technical and Madrasah Education Division Secretary Md Daud Mia signed the agreement for Bangladesh, while Professor Zheng Pengwu, vice-president of Jiangxi Science and Technology Normal University, signed on behalf of China.

The partnership will cover vocational training, bilingual learning materials, research, curriculum development, industry-linked training, exchanges and specialised programmes for education administrators.

Three new cooperation platforms were also inaugurated, including the China-Bangladesh Vocational Teacher Training Centre and the Bangladesh Vocational Education Research Centre.

Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon said Bangladesh was keen to learn from China’s experience in developing a modern, industry-linked vocational education system.

He said quality technical education and practical training could transform Bangladesh’s large young population into a skilled and globally competitive workforce.
