Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Thursday extended financial assistance to meritorious student Mohammad Nazmul Hasan to help him overcome the initial financial hurdles to pursuing higher studies in Sweden on a full scholarship.
Nazmul, a master’s student of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Rajshahi University, met the prime minister at his office at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Thursday afternoon and received the grant provided on prime minister’s behalf.
PM’s Assistant Press Secretary KM Nazmul Haque said Nazmul recently secured a full scholarship from the University of Skövde in Sweden, but his family was struggling to bear the costs of overseas travel, initial accommodation and other necessary expenses.
A student of Rajshahi University’s 2019-20 academic session, Nazmul is pursuing his master’s degree with thesis in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He is also an assistant human rights affairs secretary of the Rajshahi University unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.
Coming from a financially disadvantaged family in Khamarkandi village of Sherpur upazila in Bogura, Nazmul had reached the threshold of international higher education through his academic merit and determination. The prime minister’s assistance has now helped remove a major financial obstacle to his journey.
Nazmul’s achievement, from a modest family background to securing an international scholarship, is expected to inspire other talented young people who aspire to pursue higher education abroad despite financial constraints.
