State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed said on Thursday that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s proposed visit to India has not yet been finalised.

“None of the visits, including the visit to India, has been finalised yet. A final decision will be taken after discussions,” she told reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in response to various questions.

Asked about the possibility of the Prime Minister visiting India and Japan, Shama said no date had been fixed for either trip. “The Japan visit will be scheduled at a mutually convenient time. The Prime Minister is currently busy with various engagements,” she said.

Referring to the scope for resolving bilateral issues through direct talks between the leaders of Bangladesh and India, she said India should make proper use of such opportunities.

“Whenever the leaders of the two countries talk and hold bilateral discussions, there is an opportunity to resolve many issues,” she said.

“There is an opportunity to improve relations with India. They can consider whether they will make use of this opportunity,” she added.

On manpower exports to Singapore, Shama Obaid said successful government-level discussions had been held on increasing the export of Bangladeshi workers to the country.

“There have also been successful discussions on increasing exports. I visited a project in Singapore that produces fuel from waste,” she said.
