Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Tuesday joined a programme marking Children’s Rights Day 2026 and the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh Shishu Academy in the capital.
The three-day celebration began on October 6 and will continue until October 8 at the academy, with this year’s theme, “Let every child have a secure future”.
Around 150 children welcomed the prime minister when he arrived at the venue in the morning.
The programme opened with the national anthem, after which Tarique Rahman took his seat alongside other guests.
His wife, Dr Zubaida Rahman, vice-chairman of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation, attended the event, which was chaired by Women and Children Affairs Minister Prof Dr AZM Zahid Hossain.
The programme includes cultural performances by children, the presentation of commemorative gifts to young participants and the unveiling of a souvenir titled Shaishab.
The prime minister is also scheduled to interact via videoconference with children from different parts of the country.
He will visit an exhibition of children’s paintings and a photo gallery showcasing different aspects of the academy’s activities.
Following the programme, Tarique Rahman is scheduled to visit the Children’s Museum building and inaugurate a solar panel system and a substation on the ground floor.
