Australia signals stronger trade engagement with Bangladesh

Australia is keen to expand trade with Bangladesh and will remain a reliable partner in supporting Rohingya refugees and the communities hosting them, Australian High Commissioner Susan Ryle has said.

She conveyed the message during a courtesy call on President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, according to a Facebook post by the Australian High Commission in Bangladesh on Tuesday.

During the meeting, Ryle and the president also discussed human rights and progress on Bangladesh’s constitutional reforms.

The Australian High Commission said Australia would continue to support Rohingya refugees as well as the communities hosting them.

The meeting also highlighted Australia’s interest in strengthening trade ties with Bangladesh, alongside discussions on key issues including human rights and constitutional reforms.
