Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides held a bilateral meeting in Delhi on Friday.

The two nations also signed six memorandums of understanding. The agreements include the establishment of a joint working group on counterterrorism and collaboration between the education ministries of both nations focusing on sport and youth.

The two countries decided to elevate their relationship to a strategic partnership. Officials stated this visit builds on the bilateral partnership and strengthens cooperation within the broader framework of the European Union, of which Cyprus is currently the chair.

The discussions highlighted the role of Cyprus in the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor, serving as the next stop from Haifa into Europe.

Both nations will mark sixty-five years of diplomatic relations in twenty twenty-seven. The diplomatic engagements involve joint investment collaborations and the development of a specialised counterterrorism centre, continuing the schedule of recent international tours.
