Ex-Addl IGP Iqbal, two others shown arrested in murder case

A Dhaka court on Tuesday ordered former Additional Inspector General of Police (Additional IGP) Iqbal Bahar and two others to be shown arrested in a case over the killing of Imon Gazi linked to the 2024 student mass uprising.

The other two are former Dhaka-5 lawmaker Harunur Rashid Munna and Jatrabari Thana Awami League President Kazi Monirul Islam Monu.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farzana Haque passed the order after hearing a petition filed by police, state prosecutor Shamsuddoha Sumon confirmed.

Earlier, the investigation officer of the case, SI Emadul Karim, submitted the applications seeking to show the three accused arrested in the case.

According to the case statement, Imon Hossain Gazi was shot dead on 5 August at Chittagong Road in Jatrabari during the Anti-Discrimination Student-People Movement.

Following the incident, his brother, Anwar Hossain, filed the case with Jatrabari Police Station on 28 August, naming 85 accused. Police said information gathered during the investigation showed that the accused were involved in the incident.
