DMP launches special drive against noise pollution in capital

The Traffic Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Tuesday conducted a special drive against noise pollution in the capital as part of its efforts to curb excessive noise and raise public awareness about road discipline.

The drive was led by DMP Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Md Anisur Rahman on Manik Mia Avenue, adjacent to the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, at around 10:30am.

During the operation, the traffic chief instructed officials to take legal action against vehicles using illegal hydraulic horns, unauthorised hooters and other devices that generate excessive noise.

He also urged vehicle owners and drivers to refrain from using horns unnecessarily and raised awareness about the harmful effects of noise pollution.

Speaking during the drive, Anisur Rahman said noise pollution posed a serious threat to public health, the environment and urban life.

He said the DMP had been conducting a week-long special campaign across the capital to control noise pollution.

The additional commissioner also called on all drivers and vehicle owners to comply with traffic laws and avoid unnecessary use of horns while driving.

According to the DMP Traffic Division, similar anti-noise pollution drives will continue as part of its efforts to ensure a people-friendly, safe and disciplined traffic management system in the capital.
