Ctg-bound 3 flights diverted to Dhaka amid severe storm

Two international flights and one domestic flight bound for Chattogram’s Shah Amanat International Airport were diverted to Dhaka on Tuesday due to the impact of stormy weather.

All the flights to and from the airport are being delayed by half to one hour amid consistent very heavy rain and gusty winds, said Ibrahim Khalil, public relations officer at the Shah Amanat International Airport.

Despite the delays all the flights successfully left the airport, while three incoming flights had to be rerouted to Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Ibrahim Khalil noted.

Of the three affected flights, US-Bangla Airlines Flight BS350 from Abu Dhabi and Air Arabia Flight G9-526 from Sharjah were unable to land in Chattogram and were diverted to the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

In addition, Biman Bangladesh Airlines Flight BG121, which was operating on the domestic route from Dhaka to Chattogram, returned to Dhaka after failing to land in Chattogram, according to Ibrahim Khalil.

Gusty winds at a speed of 80-90 kilometres per hours are blowing in the airport area, he added.

Rains have been continuing since Sunday, and turned into very heavy rain on Monday. In the 24 hours till 12pm on Tuesday, rainfall of 386.8 millimetres was recorded in Chattogram, said the weather office in Patenga.
