A bomb exploded at a rally of National Citizen Party (NCP) at a field in Savar on Monday night, leaving many injured.
NCP Executive Committee Member Yasir Arafat said the bombing incident took place at Savar Police Station Stand Eidgah around 9:45pm.
The lethality of the bomb could not be immediately confirmed, with some reports saying it was a crude bomb.
Yasir Arafat said that “terrorists” carried out the explosion at the rally venue while NCP Dhaka district unit Convener Engineer Nabila Tasnid was delivering her speech.
At the time, NCP Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam, NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, Chief Organizer (Northern Region) Sarjis Alam, and other party leaders were present on the rally stage.
Meanwhile, following the cocktail attack at the rally venue, NCP leaders gathered in front of Savar Model Police Station. They staged a protest there, condemning the attack that occurred during the public rally.
NCP has announced its nationwide “July March 2026” programme, demanding the implementation of a referendum, job creation, and strengthened border security. As part of the campaign, the party on Sunday launched the programme across 100 upazilas and municipalities in all 64 districts of the country, beginning with a march and rally in Savar.
