Dhaka | Wednesday Night:
Amid heightened security following the banned Awami League’s announced “lockdown” programme, miscreants set fire to a stationary train outside Tejgaon Railway Station on Wednesday night.
The incident occurred around 9:45pm, police confirmed.
Tejgaon Zone Assistant Commissioner of Police Akkas Ali said the blaze was brought under control before it could spread. Two individuals have been detained in connection with the incident, though their identities had not been confirmed at the time of filing this report.
Dhaka Railway Police Officer-in-Charge Md Zainal said a group of youths set fire to an old train coach parked near the station. Railway security personnel detained two suspects on the spot and handed them over to police.
No casualties or injuries were reported.
Authorities have since intensified security measures across Dhaka as arson attacks on public transport vehicles continue to rise in recent days.
