The Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction, popularly known as the Women’s IPL, is scheduled for 27 November in Delhi, with three Bangladeshi cricketers making the shortlist. Pacer Marufa Akter, all-rounder Shorna Akter, and spinner Rabeya Khan earned their spots following strong performances in the recent Women’s One Day World Cup.
All three players have a base price of 41 lakh 33 thousand taka. If successfully bid on, any of them could make their WPL debut this season. Marufa Akter drew attention during Bangladesh’s opening World Cup match with an impressive in-swing delivery, earning praise from Sri Lankan legend Lasith Malinga, though she was unable to maintain that form throughout the tournament. She ended with six wickets in six matches.
Shorna Akter scored 116 runs and took six wickets, including the fastest half-century of the tournament off 34 balls. Rabeya Khan contributed seven wickets and 87 runs in seven games.
A total of 227 players have registered for the mega auction, including 83 overseas cricketers, with only 23 foreign slots available. Bangladesh has three players in contention for these coveted spots.
