Gold prices make big jump; new rate Tk232,930 per bhori

The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has increased the price of gold in the local market, raising the rate of 22-carat gold by Tk9,856 per bhori (11.664 grams).

The new prices took effect at 10:00am on Thursday, according to a BAJUS statement.

Following the latest revision, the price of one bhori of 22-carat gold now stands at Tk232,930, including VAT.

BAJUS said its Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring approved the new rates at a meeting. The association issued a press release in this regard this morning.

Under the new rates, the price of 21-carat gold has increased by Tk9,448 to Tk222,491 per bhori, including VAT.

The price of 18-carat gold has risen by Tk8,106 to Tk191,056 per bhori, while gold produced under the traditional method now costs Tk156,064 per bhori after an increase of Tk6,590.

The latest revision comes less than a week after BAJUS revised gold prices on 31 July, when it raised the price of 22-carat gold by Tk2,216 per bhori to Tk223,074. That rate remained in effect until 9:59am on Thursday.

BAJUS also raised silver prices.

The price of 22-carat silver has increased by Tk292 to Tk 4,899 per bhori, including VAT. The price of 21-carat silver now stands at Tk4,666 per bhori after a Tk292 increase, while 18-carat silver costs Tk4,024 per bhori following a Tk233 rise.

The price of silver produced under the traditional method has increased by Tk175 to Tk 3,033 per bhori, including VAT.
